Losing just one tooth
leads to the loss of jaw support. The bone gradually dissolves and the face
sags in the area. Teeth begin to drift into the empty space causing a change in
your bite. It also forces the remaining teeth to carry increased chewing
forces, sometimes beyond their ability to adapt. In most cases, tooth loss
causes the remaining teeth to suffer and more likely to be lost as
well.
Implants
Implants are replacement teeth that are permanently anchored in the
jaw. Implants are like having the entire tooth back in place and are the best
method of tooth replacement. Implants help preserve the bone and as a result
maintain the shape of your face. To be a candidate for implants you need to
have healthy gums and good jaw bone ridges. Visit our offices, implants may be
your best choice.
Bridges Replacement of missing teeth
with bridges is tried and true. The replacement tooth is connected to the teeth
on either side of the space. "Caps" or crowns are made and cemented onto the
teeth on either side of the missing tooth space. These crowns are connected to
the replacement tooth. The entire unit is fixed in place and looks like natural
teeth. This is a great alternative if implants are not recommended.
